FAA20 Vocoder Card:
The FAA20 Vocoder is a 4"x5" printed circuit card that performs
ATC-10B voice encoding/decoding operations on analog voice or PCM voice
streams.
|
The ATC-10B
algorithm is specified in DO-224B as the standard for the FAA’s Next
Generation Communication (NEXCOM) system. It compresses 128 kbps PCM
voice (16-bit voice samples at 8 ksps) into a 4800 bps stream. It is
designed as an upgraded replacement for the DVSI VC-20 hardware
module. Unlike the VC-20, the FAA20 uses the new fixed point
implementation of the ATC-10B algorithm and supports truncated timing
operation (i.e 4000 bps operation). It is fully compatible with systems
designed to accept the original VC-20 module. |
