When they needed expertise in developing a new, complex, miniaturized electronic control module for their Crittercam®, National Geographic Television (NGT) Natural History Unit – Special Projects turned to CIE for help.

The Crittercam® is a sophisticated video and data collection system in a ruggedized, waterproof housing which is attached to marine creatures for research purposes. CIE worked with NGT personnel to develop a detailed set of requirements which included new functionality as well as the preservation of some existing capabilities and interfaces. Leading edge technology was employed to keep both size and weight as low as practical.

A sophisticated, integrated power management scheme will allow extended operation between recharging of the battery packs. The architecture is purposely structured to allow for flexibility in growth so items such as new sensors or operational features can be added without a complete redesign.

Crittercam® is a registered trademark of National Geographic.
