RF Test Systems

Development

CIE developed and integrated five test systems for use in doing surveys of RF interference at airports and related FAA facilities. These systems included an extensive set of antennas covering up to a few GHz, a spectrum analyzer and a laptop computer along with related accessories. The laptop contained CIE developed software which controlled the operation of the spectrum analyzer and also stored the results of the scans for later analysis. The system was capable of being operated in either manual or automatic mode and could monitor frequency bands for long periods of time if needed to detect intermittent interferers. The system was packaged in two heavy duty travel cases.

Field Surveys/Analysis

CIE conducted a number of field surveys at airports such as Atlanta and JFK. Some of these surveys were in response to specific complaints of interference such as at Atlanta when concern was raised over possible interference from power generating stations on the airport with an explosives detection system which was being demonstrated there. Other surveys were in preparation for the installation of new equipment in order to determine their suitability for the existing environment.
