Description of Engineering Labor Categories

Project/Program Manager

Responsibilities: Responsible for overall effort across all subtasks including integration of related subtasks. Develops program plans, procedures, reviews, and analyses. Performs tasking, costing, scheduling, implementing and tracking of contracts.

Education: BS in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physical Sciences required; advanced degree preferred.

Experience: Must have a minimum of 20 years of progressive engineering experience with at least three years of program management experience.

Senior Systems/Test Engineer

Responsibilities: Capable of providing technical leadership from a wealth of experience. This may include Systems Engineers, Avionics Engineers, and Principal Engineers. Provides a comprehensive definition of all aspects of system development from analysis of mission needs to verification of system performance. Performs evaluation of alternatives and an assessment of risks and costs. Provides expertise in the specification development for, and testing of avionics/airframe/auxiliary equipment interfaces. Factory testing, site acceptance and operational testing of complex equipment and systems. Expertise in avionics performance characteristics and the effects of the airframe or auxiliary equipment on them. Provides expertise across a broad range of engineering disciplines including design, development and integration of electronic systems.

Education: BS in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physical Sciences required; advanced degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 20 years of progressive engineering experience including three years of management/leadership responsibilities. Minimum of ten years of System/Test experience.

Principal Engineer

Responsibilities: Responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the work activity of technical and skilled craft personnel at all levels. Knowledge and competence in management of engineering and test projects that involve organizationally and geographically diverse elements.

Education: BS in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physical Sciences required; advanced degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 15 years of progressive engineering experience of which five years must be of engineering management experience of complex systems.

Expert Engineer

Responsibilities: Serves as senior technical expert in one or more system engineering specific areas. Work independently, or only under general direction on complex application problems involving all phases of system engineering to solve given problems. Prepares progress reports and deliverables and presents interim and final task order results to the Contracting Officer's Representative, colleagues, subordinates and customer representatives. Coordinates with the Program Manager, COR and customer managers to ensure client satisfaction for technical matters.

Education: BS in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physical Sciences required; advanced degree preferred.

Experience: Ten years of progressive experience in Systems Engineering is required.

Systems Engineer

Responsibilities: Performs a variety of highly complex project tasks applied to specialized technology problems (e.g. signal processing, navigation and guidance, communications, etc.). Typical assignments involve integration of electronic processes or methodologies to resolve total system, problems or applications. Processes used may range from simple electromechanical applications to sophisticated use of computer or other electronic technology and equipment.

Education: BS in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physical Sciences required.

Experience: Five to ten years of work experience in Systems Engineering.

Programmer

Responsibilities: Demonstrated experience in supporting Government software development. Ability to perform software system analysis. Monitor software development in accordance with Government Standards and write software development assessments Performs systems engineering functions primarily with respect to computer functional allocations, software development, and hardware development. Serves as computer programmer analyst, performs development and application of computer software, data analysis, personal computers, local area networks, operating systems and high level languages such as C, C++ and Visual Basic. Has experience in computer systems interfaces. Proficient in the use of personal computers and has working knowledge of commercial software programs.

Education: BS in Computer Sciences or related field required or five years additional experience.

Experience: Two to four years of experience or advanced degree.

Jr. Engineer

Responsibilities: Works under the direction of a Programmer executing discrete programming tasks broken out of the larger project. Designs, codes, tests, develops and documents application programs for routine and straightforward computer systems. Works with users to define system scope and objectives. Performs modifications to, and maintenance of simple operational programs and procedures. Creates computer, subroutine and procedural forms and documentation.

Education: A BS Degree or Equivalent

Experience: None to two years

Documentation Specialist

Responsibilities: Development, maintenance and distribution of all documents generated on the project.

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent, which included a major study or specific course requirements for professional occupations i.e., Library Science, English or Business or related field.

Experience: Must have at least five years experience as a documentation specialist or technical writer of large complex programs in commercial or defense environment
